Something(s) old, Something(s) new.

Just some photos of the outfits I came up with for my two new skirts :) ordered a white denim one for spring, and hubby bought me the coral pencil skirt, which I'm thinking of wearing out for Valentines day with heels and a dressy top- pix for that will be put up later this month :)
The last 5 photos aren't new items, just some combos I came up with and liked.

Outfit planning

Ok so, often when I have several events or social encounters coming up in a week, I'll plan out my outfits for those days ahead of time, which is actually one reason I decided to start this blog! I plan out a couple different outfits and snap a quick photo, then when I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what to wear in a hurry, I can refer back to my photos. Such a huge time saver! I recently started keeping ALL of those photos in an album on my phone, because often I'll forget some of the combos I had come up with, and it's actually been an insanely helpful tool when I have "nothing" to wear! ;)
Now, awhile back I mentioned a rule about wearing print with print, and I'm breaking that rule in a couple of these outfits :) rules were MEANT to be broken, after all! Granted this is just my personal opinion, as with everything else on this blog, but here's why this particular outfit works: for starters, the prints are not right next to each other. (I haven't tried it, but for example, I really doubt a leopard scarf would work the same, as the two patterns would be directly side by side). Neither do they rival each other, in other words, neither pattern demands a lot of attention. Thirdly, being coupled with the neutrals of the denim and cream cardigan, it down-plays the entire outfit. Again, just my personal eye.
I apologize if my outfits are beginning to look a little repetitious to you, but honestly that is what this blog is all about, finding multiple ways to mix your own clothes!!! Some of you may be thinking, "uh, we've seen your closet, you have a TON of stuff!" While this is very true, every single piece of clothing can not be mixed with every single piece of clothing. Like, I know I've posted a couple photos of my mint cardigan with other different pieces, I can't mix that cardigan with pieces like the orange pencil skirt, etc. because they so NOT go together. ;)
OKAY, on to the photos, enjoy!

3- soft and sweet, I'm thinking this will be my next go-to wedding outfit!

4- J.Crew style meets Abercrombie/Hollister. All of my loves <3

Just a few nonsense photos ☺ mall haul- got a cool yellow scarf from Gap, Anne Klein dress from Marshall's, and found some leopard print flats in MY size for $7!!! A fluke? I think not. It was fate.
And a few {more} outfit photos!

Right on Target

I haven't been this excited about a Target haul in awhile. I had my eye on this orange shirt for several weeks, but it was one of those things I just never actually bought. I have an obsession with waiting for things to go on sale, even if I can easily afford to pay full price... I love me a good deal! And that's exactly what I got today- I was browsing the clearance section waaay to the back, where I usually don't go (it's usually plus size/maternity stuff) and lo and behold, the orange shirt. In my exact size. On clearance for... Wait for it.... Wait for it......$6.48!!!!! (Original price was $22.99) I pretty much yelped for joy right then and there! I also got two new skirts, and using Emmi Logic, being I got such a great deal on the shirt, why not buy two full priced skirts while I'm at it? Haha. So while I'm heading to the register, I see "clearance" signs over in the shoe department... Oh yes! Leopard print flats on sale for $7.48. Sadly, they only had 5.5, and I'm a 6-6.5. I couldn't try them on in the store, because I had really dirty boots and socks from a cleaning job I had done this morning... (Don't judge me....) so I bought them, and tried them on at home.., hoping against hope they ran a bit big........ No such luck. So I will be returning them, unless one of my readers with really tiny feet would like to buy them off me! Or someone has a magical way of stretching a shoe half a size....
Anyways, enough blabbing. Here's some pictures of what I did with my new treasures. Enjoy!

Cheers! Xoxo

Shopping in my closet

So, this blog is as much for me as it is anyone out there in cyber space who may {or may not} be benefiting from my ramblings and bad mirror pictures. We all know what it's like to get in a slump where we feel like we have NOTHING to wear. Bored and discouraged with what we have hanging in our closets. Personally, my first instinct is to go shopping. However, that's not always a cure! Eventually we get bored with the new stuff and are back at square one. Let me encourage you, whoever you are, to shop in your closet. That's right, the shopaholic of all time is telling you to stay home and play dress up. I know it sounds weird, but it helps. So, snapping pictures of combinations of my own clothing and chronicling it is a useful tool for me to look back and be encouraged that I do, in fact, have plenty to wear, and I hope that somewhere in this process I can also provide some inspiration and helpful insight for others.

What NOT to wear

So, here's a little photo post with some examples of what NOT to wear and how to fix it. Enjoy!

#1- what's wrong with this outfit? First off, the cardigan is a dressier cardigan, and the skirt and shoes are casual.
#2- Fix one, Switch out the light wash skirt for a dark wash, and switch out the Toms for slightly dressier counterparts.
#3- Fix two, if casual is what you're going for, switch the cardigan for a more casual one.

#4-The problem with this one, isn't colors. It's the materials. The Toms and shirt are both very casual, and the skirt is very dressy. Velvet can NOT be dressed down. Ever. It's a highly dressy and pairing it with anything but another dressy piece looks mismatched.
#5- Fixed! Switch out the casual red shirt for a dressy one and some cute flats or heels.

#6- I decided to roll my post about being overly match into this post. So here is a picture of a very matchy outfit. I regret to say I've worn this outfit. A few times. And so we must learn from our mistakes, and lucky for you, YOU can also learn from my mistakes. Now. There there is nothing wrong with pink, but unless you are a 6 year old, it's probably a good idea to tone it down a bit.
#7- After realizing I looked like a run away teletubby, I made a little progress...
#8- MUCH better. Breaking up the colors so that one piece is the main focus, not to mention making the outfit much, much more age appropriate.

Cheers! Xoxo.
